SPALLOONS
A series of paintings made in the 1990s using the comic book convention of speech balloons or, as I call them, spalloons.

Spalloons considered as objects, as things; what Aristotle would define as a 'substance', a thing-in-its-own-right. A subject rather than a predicate - or perhaps both.

SPECULAR IMAGES

Another series of paintings made in the 1990s that plays with the idea of the painted surface as a mirror that reflects an imagined space behind the viewer.
